ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Ormesby achieves quality standard for careers work
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Ormesby has been recognised for its outstanding careers work. The school has been awarded the national Quality in Careers Standard awarded under licence by Ixion (Part of the Shaw Trust Group). The Quality in Careers Standard is awarded to schools and education providers who can demonstrate the importance they place on careers and how they support students to make decisions about their life after school.
The academy is continually working to improve the chances and opportunities of all the students. Recognising the importance of preparing students for their future careers the school began working towards the national Quality in Careers Standard.
There is a statutory duty to ‘secure independent careers guidance’ for all students from Year 8 onwards and the Government also recommends that all schools should be required to work towards the national Quality in Careers Standard.
Achieving the national Quality in Careers Standard shows the leadership team and governors at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Ormesby embrace, promote and endorse quality careers education and recognise the part it plays in the overall success of the school and its students. The school offers a range of activities to introduce students to the world of work and help them make decisions about life after school alongside excellent partnerships with local colleges, training providers, Tees Valley Combined Authority and the Department of Work and Pensions.
Student have access to their own Careers Adviser from Progress Careers who provides students with one to one guidance and support. The school also gets involved in both local and national careers initiatives and hosts events such as careers fairs, Talent Foundry Skills for Life programme, NHS Careers Show, BBC Bitesize Careers Roadshow, Cambridge University North East Access Programme, all of which aim to raise aspirations and inform students about the wide range of pathways available to them.
Victoria Garrett, Careers Lead at the academy, said:
“We are thrilled to be recognised for our careers work as it is such an important part of our role in preparing students for further education or training opportunities, a career and life beyond the academy. We are dedicated to ensuring our students are given excellent guidance and every opportunity to learn about how their curriculum learning links to the world of work and employment.â€
