National Taekwondo success for ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Ripon student

Saharnaz Zarifi, 11, is celebrating after securing three medals at the British Taekwondo National Poomsae Championships.

The event which was held at the University of Worcester Arena, saw Saharnaz claim two gold medals and a bronze for individual, team and pair events, respectively. Poomsae, sometimes referred to as patterns, are a non-contact element of Taekwondo which comprises pre-arranged sets of defence and attacking movements which become more complex as a person progresses and develops their practice.

Saharnaz, who attends ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Ripon, has been training twice a week at Harrogate Taekwondo since taking up the sport in November 2022 and has already achieved medal success at a number of competitions. Commenting on the win, Saharnaz said: "I’ve become so much more confident since starting Taekwondo and I am happy that I know exactly what to do when in a fight. I have almost 20 medals now!"
