Bike Fest returns to Shafton for a third year

On Saturday 1 July, the 3rd annual Shafton Bike Fest will take place. The event which will run from 12 pm to 3 pm, is a charity motorcycle show held by students at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Shafton and its charity committee to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and collect items for the Barnsley Food Bank.

Its founder Christopher Rooke, Technology Teacher, explains:

“There are many facets to Shafton Bike Fest. Firstly, to raise as much money for our chosen charity but also to raise the profile of motorcycling in the community and dissuade anti-social behaviour on bikes.

“Hosting the event allows us to work with and support local businesses, promote local bands, and hold our annual Engineering Awards for Year 11.â€

This year the school have arranged for the Air Ambulance Helicopter to land on site (subject to operational requirements). There will also be activities from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service as well as some practise CPR activities organised by the NHS Ambulance Service.

If businesses would like to sponsor the event, rent a stall, or donate raffle prizes, please contact Christopher Rooke at c.rooke@shafton.outwood.com. There are still opportunities for local bands to perform and the academy is in need of a PA system.

This year's event will be dedicated to Mr Terry Summers, a local engineer, who co-founded the Bike Fest with Mr Rooke and worked with the school’s engineering students.
