Doncaster Academy Boccia Team Take Big Step Towards National Finals

A team from a Doncaster-based secondary academy has taken a big step towards Boccia England’s National Competition after success in a regional competition.

The students from ϳԹ Danum progressed from the regional tournament held at Barnsley College in emphatic fashion, only conceding the first point against them after four rounds of play.

The team will now head to York in March to compete against teams from across Yorkshire for a place at the National Finals.

Jayne Gaunt, Principal at ϳԹ Danum, said:

“We are so proud of our amazing Boccia team. They performed so well and we cannot wait to cheer them on at York.

“At Outwood, we believe in putting Students First and doing all we can to help our students fulfil their potential. For us this goes beyond academics and the classroom, and events like this are an example of this.”

Boccia is a Paralympic sport and is similar to bowls in which, from a seated position, players aim and throw balls to land as close as possible to a white marker ball. The sport is an intense test of both muscle memory and accuracy.

The team from ϳԹ Danum consisted of the following students: Tiffany Cole, Jaspinder Singh, Ismael Dahree, Jack Duce, Amber Wilson, Alfie Davies.
